Football Recap: Bellflower Comes Up Short

After flying high against Vasquez on Saturday, Bellflower came back down to earth. The Buccaneers were just a hair shy of victory on Saturday and fell 13-12 to the Portola Bulldogs. The loss was the Buccaneers' first of the season.

Although Bellflower took the loss, they still got scores from Kendyll Upshaw and Ta'Lia Johnson.

Even if they lost, Bellflower's defense still kept up the pressure with three sacks. In that department, Jade Walker was the leader with two. Upshaw got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Having lost for the first time this season, Bellflower fell to 6-1. As for Portola, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.

Coincidentally, Bellflower and Portola will both be playing Shadow Hills the next time they take the field. The Bulldogs will head out to face the Knights at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, while the Buccaneers will play them later in the day, at 12:00 p.m.
