Baseball Recap: Pittsburg Drops Highest Score of Season Against Deer Valley

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Pittsburg). Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Deer Valley Wolverines a 16-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Pirates haven't had any issues with the Wolverines recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

J'Marion Bella made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two runs and one double.

In other batting news, Pittsburg let Santino Valle and Ty Thompson run wild. Valle got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one triple, two RBI, and one run, while Thompson went 1-for-5 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI Valle has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Yamil Guyton, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Pittsburg's victory bumped their record up to 16-5. As for Deer Valley, their defeat was their ninth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 0-13.

Pittsburg will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Wolverines: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
