Softball Recap: Garrard County Has No Trouble Against Paul Laurence Dunbar

Garrard County never got on the board in their matchup last Monday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Paul Laurence Dunbar on Tuesday. They blew past the Bulldogs 16-6. The result was nothing new for the Golden Lions, who have now won six contests by nine runs or more so far this season.

Emily Hounshell was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits. Hounshell was also solid in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with three doubles and one RBI. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Garrard County got a massive performance out of Jazlynn Shelton, who scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Those four runs gave Shelton a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Destiny Logan, who scored three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Garrard County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .641. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Garrard County now has a winning record of 8-7-1. As for Paul Laurence Dunbar, they now have a losing record of 7-8.

Looking ahead, Garrard County will head out to face off against Boyle County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Paul Laurence Dunbar, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Franklin County at 6:00 p.m. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Flyers have averaged an impressive 9.8 runs per game this season.
