Softball Game Preview: Deep Creek Hornets vs. Kempsville Chiefs

The Deep Creek Hornets will head out on the road to challenge the Kempsville Chiefs at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Deep Creek is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games.

Deep Creek is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against King's Fork on Tuesday as they made off with a 19-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Hornets, who have now won five games by seven runs or more so far this season.

The team relied heavily on Lilly B, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, seven RBI, and three runs. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Bailey Cockrell, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.

Deep Creek always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .576. The last time their OBP was this high was back in May of 2024.

Meanwhile, after soaring to ten runs the game before, Kempsville was a bit more limited in their contest on Tuesday. They fell just short of Kellam by a score of 3-2. The Chiefs have struggled against the Knights recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.

Deep Creek's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-3. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Kempsville, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-3.

Deep Creek beat Kempsville 9-4 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hornets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
