Basketball Recap: River Takes a Loss

River lost against Caldwell back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The contest between the River Pilots and the Caldwell Redskins didn't end well, with the River Pilots falling 57-38. While losing is never fun, the Pilots can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 688th, while the Redskins are ranked 217th).

Carter Wheeldin continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Caldwell, dropping a double-double on 28 points and 14 boards. That makes it three consecutive games in which Wheeldin has scored at least a third of Caldwell's points. Another player making a difference was Dylan Schott, who went 5 of 9 to rack up 12 points and three steals.

River has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season. As for Caldwell, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-3.

Looking ahead, River and Monroe Central will face off at 7:30 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. One thing working in Monroe Central's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last seven games. As for Caldwell, they are taking a road trip to challenge Toronto at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
