Trinity Presbyterian hasn't had much luck against Saint James recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Wildcats will host the Trojans at 4:00 p.m. Trinity Presbyterian is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.
Saint James will take on a team with plenty of momentum: Trinity Presbyterian extended their winning streak to three on Tuesday. The Wildcats came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured an 8-7 W against Alabama Christian Academy. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 16, 2024, but that streak is no more.
Marley Sharpless was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, Evie Knight was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Emory Harris was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Trinity Presbyterian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Saint James got themselves on the board against Brewbaker Tech on Tuesday, but Brewbaker Tech never followed suit. They blew past the Rams 10-0. Considering the Trojans have won 16 games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Not much got past Emily Needham, who gave up just a hit to keep Brewbaker Tech off the board.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Tatiana Shuford, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Stanford, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3.
Saint James pushed their record up to 34-6 with the win, which was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Trinity Presbyterian, they now have a winning record of 9-8.
Thursday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Trinity Presbyterian has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .441. However, it's not like Saint James struggles in that department as they've averaged .437. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
