Preview: Dillon Wildcats vs. Red Springs Red Devils
The Dillon Wildcats will head out on the road to challenge the Red Springs Red Devils at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Dillon has three straight victories, Red Springs has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Thursday, Dillon beat Aynor 35-27.
Dillon found their leader in underclassman Treasure Davis, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and six steals. Davis has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last eight times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Khwnylahi Mckinnon, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Red Springs suffered their biggest loss since November 27, 2023 last Friday. Their rough 61-37 loss to Dillon might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Red Springs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 441st in North Carolina, while Dillon is ranked 79th in South Carolina).
Despite the defeat, Red Springs had strong showings from Monica Washington, who scored 15 points, and Adrianna Locklear, who scored ten points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Locklear has scored all season.
Dillon pushed their record up to 10-4 with that victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.3 points per game. As for Red Springs, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-9.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Dillon have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 36.8 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Red Springs, though, as they've been averaging only 31.5 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything went Dillon's way against Red Springs in their previous matchup last Friday as Dillon made off with a 61-37 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Dillon since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
