Clairton gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Monday. They were the clear victor by an 18-11 margin over the Northgate Flames. Both teams can probably skip cardio this week after making that many trips around the bases.
Clairton got a massive performance out of Robert Wallace, who scored three runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Jontere Sanders, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and a run.
Northgate are on a 17-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Clairton will take on Bethlehem Center at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Clairton is no doubt hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses dating back to last season. As for Northgate, they will head out on the road to challenge Aliquippa at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
