Basketball Recap: Thornton Picks Up Eighth Straight Win at Home

Thornton won the last time they faced Thornwood and things went their way on Friday too. The Thornton Wildcats managed a 48-44 victory over the Thornwood Thunderbirds. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wildcats.

Thornton found their leader in sophomore Jeremy Blanco-Rios, who posted 21 points and six rebounds. Those 21 points set a new season-high mark for Blanco-Rios. Another player making a difference was Kyshon Anderson, who had eight points.

Thornwood's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lester Watson, who earned 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Jones, who put up 12 points.

Thornton pushed their record up to 5-8 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.6 points per game. As for Thornwood, their loss dropped their record down to 7-10.

Thornton wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 74-46 defeat against Homewood-Flossmoor on the 11th. As for Thornwood, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 65-58 victory against Proviso West on the 11th.
