Moses Brown and La Salle Academy are an even 4-4 against one another since May of 2017, but likely not for long. The Quakers will face off against the Rams at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Moses Brown hasn't scored more than two runs for seven games straight, a trend the squad is eager to reverse.
Moses Brown is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Rhode Island's top teams: Bishop Hendricken, who was ranked first at the time (Moses Brown was ranked 15th). The Quakers came up short against the Hawks on Thursday, falling 6-0.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask La Salle Academy). They were the clear victors by a 14-2 margin over Cranston East on Wednesday. With that win, the Rams brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.
Cam Caprio looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, La Salle Academy got a massive performance out of Thomas Malloy, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave Malloy a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Axel Dasilva, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and two runs.
La Salle Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cranston East only posted an OBP of .316.
The victory made it two in a row for La Salle Academy and bumps their season record up to 8-3. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games. As for Moses Brown, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-8.
Moses Brown came out on top in a nail-biter against La Salle Academy in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 4-3. Will the Quakers repeat their success, or do the Rams have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
