Preview: Claymont Mustangs vs. Tuscarawas Valley Trojans

Claymont has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will take on the Tuscarawas Valley Trojans at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

Last Sunday, Claymont came up short against New Philadelphia and fell 42-31. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Claymont has scored all season.

Meanwhile, Tuscarawas Valley strolled past Strasburg-Franklin with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 59-41. That 18 points margin sets a new team best for Tuscarawas Valley this season.

John Leffler was his usual excellent self, scoring 24 points along with three steals. He is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last six games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Virgil Myers, who scored seven points along with five assists and five rebounds.

Claymont has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-7 record this season. As for Tuscarawas Valley, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a massive bump to their 4-7 record this season.

Claymont was able to grind out a solid victory over Tuscarawas Valley when the teams last played back in December of 2023, winning 49-41. The rematch might be a little tougher for Claymont since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
