Softball Game Preview: West Monroe Rebels vs. Alexandria Trojans

The West Monroe Rebels will head out on the road to face off against the Alexandria Trojans at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. West Monroe has given up an average of 7.7 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

West Monroe took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They came out on top against Ouachita Parish by a score of 15-11. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Rebels' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Meanwhile, Alexandria faced Pineville in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. Alexandria sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-6 victory over Pineville. The win continues a trend for the Trojans in their matchups with the Rebels: they've now won five in a row.

Amiyah Wilson was incredible, getting on base in five of her six plate appearances with one home run and two runs. Another player making a difference was Mary Claire Brinkman, who scored a run while getting on base in four of her six plate appearances.

Alexandria pushed their record up to 15-3 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for West Monroe, they moved to 8-10 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

West Monroe took their victory against Alexandria in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 12-5. Does West Monroe have another victory up their sleeve, or will Alexandria turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
