Basketball Game Preview: Alamogordo Tigers vs. Los Lunas Tigers

The Alamogordo Tigers will head out on the road to take on the Los Lunas Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Los Lunas took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Alamogordo, who comes in off a win.

Alamogordo is headed into the matchup after thoroughly thrashing Deming: they outscored them in every quarter. Alamogordo was the clear victor by a 59-36 margin over Deming on Tuesday. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked 46th, while the Wildcats are ranked 135th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Los Lunas was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They lost 58-35 to Organ Mountain. The Tigers were down 45-20 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Alamogordo has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a massive bump to their 7-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.7 points per game. As for Los Lunas, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-10.

Alamogordo came up short against Los Lunas when the teams last played back in March of 2024, falling 61-55. Can Alamogordo avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
