Preview: Forrest City Mustangs vs. Brookland Bearcats
Forrest City has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against The Brookland Bearcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
Last Friday, Forrest City was beaten by Wynne 49-14.
Despite the defeat, Forrest City got a solid performance out of Montrel Matthews, who rushed for 71 yards and a touchdown. Eric Ward got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Brookland fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back victories it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They beat Paragould on Friday by the very same score they won with last week: 28-13.
Forrest City's defeat was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 1-8-1. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 8-1 Southside and 7-2 Robinson (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 62.9% over those games). As for Brookland, their victory bumped their record up to 4-5.
Forrest City couldn't quite finish off Brookland when the teams last played back in November of 2022 and fell 32-30. Can Forrest City avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
