The Auburn Riverside Ravens will head out on the road to square off against the Sunlake Seahawks at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Auburn Riverside is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.3 runs per game this season.
Auburn Riverside proved they can win big on Monday (they won by six) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Zephyrhills 6-5.
Kylee Curtis looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Hannah Potter was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Addison Opsahl was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Sunlake hadn't done well against Land O' Lakes recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Seahawks put the hurt on the Gators with a sharp 6-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Seahawks, who have now won seven matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Not much got past Madison Siders, who gave up just four hits and racked up six Ks to keep Land O' Lakes off the board.
On the hitting side, Emily Ward and Abigail Avant did most of the damage at the plate: Ward went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one triple, while Avant scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Lexi Romero, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
Sunlake was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Land O' Lakes only posted a batting average of .154.
Auburn Riverside's victory was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-3. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Sunlake, their record is now 12-6.
Both Auburn Riverside and Sunlake just can't seem to miss. The Ravens have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.4 hits per game. However, it's not like Sunlake struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.9 hits.
