Basketball Recap: Heritage Falls Despite Big Games from Charlie Gilloth and Brayden Chaney

Heritage was the 87-64 winner over Columbine when they last played one another back in November of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Heritage Eagles took a 61-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Columbine Rebels. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the defeat, Heritage had strong showings from Brayden Chaney, who posted 15 points along with eight rebounds and four steals, and Charlie Gilloth, who went 6 of 12 en route to 17 points. Gilloth's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Trystan Rangel, who had ten points.

Even though they lost, Heritage smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Columbine only pulled down eight offensive boards.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Columbine to victory, but perhaps none more so than Cash Boykin, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 boards. Boykin is also crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Dyson Boykin was another key player, going 5 of 10 on his way to 16 points.

Heritage's loss dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Columbine, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-3.

Heritage wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, an 81-67 defeat against Monarch on the 11th. As for Columbine, they will venture away from home to face off against Arvada West at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Arvada West's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
