Softball Recap: Western Guilford Takes a Loss

Western Guilford lost against Page back in April of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Western Guilford Hornets came up short against the Page Pirates, falling 34-18. Even if the Hornets couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

Natalie Espitia and Nat Eaves did some serious damage despite the final result: Espitia scored two runs while going 2-for-3, while Eaves scored three runs while going 2-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Katelyn Russell, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.

Western Guilford's loss was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Page, with the victory, they broke their six-game losing streak and moved their record to 1-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Western Guilford and Southeast Guilford will meet in a classic East v. West matchup at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Southeast Guilford's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last four matches. As for Page, they will challenge Northern Guilford at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Northern Guilford is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
