Softball Recap: Kennedy Has No Trouble Against Cordova

After losing to Cordova the last time they met, Kennedy decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Cougars put the hurt on the Lancers with a sharp 16-6 win on Thursday. With that victory, the Cougars brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.

Kaylena Ogle made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. Ogle was even better at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Kennedy got a massive performance out of Kira Griffin, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Gia Smith, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Kennedy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Kennedy's record is now 7-10. As for Cordova, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Kennedy will face off against McClatchy at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lions' pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so the Cougars' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Cordova, they will challenge Grant at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Pacers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 16.73 runs per game on average), something the Lancers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
