Basketball Recap: L'Anse Comes Up Short

L'Anse was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They lost to the Johnston Speedboys at home by a 67-48 margin. The Purple Hornets lost against the Speedboys in their previous head to head back in February of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 69-21 score last time.

Despite the defeat, L'Anse saw an underclassman step up: freshman Sam Lee went 6-for-11 from beyond the arc en route to 30 points and six rebounds. The matchup was Lee's eighth in a row with at least 16 points. Keegan Davidson was another key player, putting up four points along with five boards and four steals.

Even though they lost, L'Anse smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in seven consecutive games.

L'Anse's record now sits at 9-13. As for Johnston, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-10 record this season.

L'Anse will be taking part in a tournament against Hancock at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Johnston, they will take on Ewen-Trout Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Ewen-Trout Creek's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five matches.
