The Carlyle Indians/Lady Indians will head out on the road to face off against the Chester Yellowjackets at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Carlyle is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, Carlyle came up short against Red Bud and fell 6-1.
Carlyle saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sophia Hoffmann, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Chester had just enough and edged out Ste. Genevieve 5-3 on Monday.
Lexie Mott was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Avery Hasemeyer was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Camryn Wolff was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Chester is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Carlyle, they dropped their record down to 6-6 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Carlyle hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .380. However, it's not like Chester struggles in that department as they've averaged .321. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Carlyle couldn't quite finish off Chester in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 and fell 5-3. Can the Indians/Lady Indians avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
