Softball Game Preview: Wilson Mules vs. Taft Toreadors

The Wilson Mules will face off against the Taft Toreadors at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Wilson had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt Franklin on Wednesday. The Mules blew past the Panthers 10-3. The Mules haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Meanwhile, it's playoff time, and Taft had no trouble coming through when it counted. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Central City Value a 13-0 shutout on Monday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Toreadors considering their two-run performance the contest before.

Chiara Cioffi was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Ella Wagner was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Jordy Aardahl, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Wilson's record is now 13-8. As for Taft, their record now sits at 7-12.

Everything went Wilson's way against Taft when the teams last played back in May of 2022, as Wilson made off with a 9-2 win. Will the Mules repeat their success, or do the Toreadors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
