Basketball Game Preview: Evergreen Cougars vs. Golden Demons

Evergreen and Golden are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. The Evergreen Cougars will be playing at home against the Golden Demons at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

It was a proper cat-fight when Evergreen faced off against D'Evelyn on Wednesday. Evergreen strolled past D'Evelyn with points to spare, taking the game 68-50. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 64th, while the Jaguars are ranked 295th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Golden didn't have too much trouble with Pomona on Wednesday as they won 72-53.

Evergreen has also been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.0 points per game. As for Golden, their victory bumped their record up to 9-5.

Evergreen won a game that couldn't have been any closer when the teams last played back in January of 2024, slipping by Golden 57-56. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Golden's Shad Garnett, who went 7 of 16 on his way to 19 points and seven boards. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be easier for Evergreen to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
