Football Recap: Taylorville Comes Up Short on the Road Against Richland County + How To Watch

Taylorville kicked off their season on the road on Friday and hit a couple of potholes. They came up short against the Richland County Tigers, falling 60-36. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Tornadoes of the 43-38 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in August of 2024.

Despite the defeat, Taylorville saw an underclassman step up: freshman Kegan Albright rushed for 124 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 7.3 yards per carry. Another player making a difference was Blaise Rogers, who picked up 68 receiving yards and two TDs.

Gavyn Cothern had a dynamite game For Richland County., rushing for 305 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 17.9 yards per carry, and also throwing for 84 yards and one TD on only eight passes. Those 305 rushing yards gave Cothern a new career-high. Xavier Owusu-Gyan was another key player, rushing for 86 yards and one score.

Looking ahead, Taylorville will square off against Canton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Richland County, they will face off against Salem at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
