Softball Game Preview: Oil City Oilers vs. Rocky Grove Orioles

The Oil City Oilers will take on the Rocky Grove Orioles at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Last Tuesday, Oil City didn't have quite enough to beat Girard and fell 9-8.

Autumn Wysocki put in work while hitting and pitching. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Wysocki was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Wysocki is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season.

In other batting news, Ariana Griffin was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Shalyn Whittemore, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4.

Meanwhile, Rocky Grove got themselves on the board against Iroquois on Tuesday, but Iroquois never followed suit. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Braves, sneaking past 2-0.

Oil City dropped their record down to 1-2 with the loss, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Rocky Grove, their victory bumped their record up to 1-0.

Oil City might still be hurting after the 13-1 defeat they got from Rocky Grove when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can Oil City avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
