Softball Game Preview: Franklin Towne Warriors vs. Central Lancers

Franklin Towne and Central are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2017, but likely not for long. The Warriors will face off against the Lancers at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Franklin Towne sitting on three straight victories and Central on four.

Franklin Towne is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand MAST Charter II a 15-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won ten contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Shya Cruz made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). Cruz was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Franklin Towne got a massive performance out of Ann Bernard, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Bernard has been hot for a while, having also posted at least one stolen base the last ten times she's played. Another player making a difference was Abigail Pelczar, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Central posted their closest win since April 30, 2024 on Monday. They had just enough and edged out Frankford 7-6.

Franklin Towne's victory bumped their record up to 11-2. As for Central, their win bumped their record up to 10-3.

Franklin Towne came out on top in a nail-biter against Central in their previous matchup back in April, sneaking past 5-4. Do the Warriors have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lancers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
