Soccer Recap: Columbia's Higher State Rank on Full Display on Wednesday

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Chiles, Columbia was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. Their defense stepped up to hand the Suwannee Bulldogs a 2-0 shutout. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida soccer rankings (they are ranked 171st, while the Bulldogs are ranked 357th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Laelle Thompson and Niki Sossie scored both of Columbia's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 20 goals.

Columbia's win bumped their record up to 10-2-1. As for Suwannee, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season.

Columbia will host Orange Park at 7:50 p.m. on Thursday. Columbia is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 3.8 goals per game this season. As for Suwannee, they are taking a road trip to challenge Baldwin at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
