Volleyball Recap: Newbury Park Takes a Loss

If Newbury Park was feeling good fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Calabasas on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Panthers fell just short of the Westlake Warriors by a score of 3-2 on Thursday. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Warriors apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

Newbury Park wouldn't go down easily and took Westlake into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking four-point loss. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-21, 25-14, 25-27, 23-25, 15-11.

Newbury Park has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-3 record this season. As for Westlake, their record now sits at 6-3.

Newbury Park and Westlake should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Panthers (ranked 110th) will meet Maranatha Christian (ranked 324th) at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Westlake will face off against Calabasas at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (214 vs. 608).
