Preview: Hastings Tigers vs. Gering Bulldogs
Hastings is 9-0 against Gering since August of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Hastings Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Gering Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. Gering took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Hastings, who comes in off a win.
Hastings fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back wins it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They really took it to Ralston for the full four quarters, racking up a 37-7 victory on the road. With Hastings ahead 21-0 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Hastings got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Tucker Synek out in front who threw for 182 yards and three touchdowns. Landon Hinrichs got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Gering fell victim to Scottsbluff's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They were outmatched by the Bearcats on the road and fell 27-0. Having soared to a lofty 31 points in the game before, Gering couldn't push the score so high this time.
Hastings is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. Gering has been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season.
Hastings beat Gering 19-7 in their previous matchup back in October of 2022. The rematch might be a little tougher for Hastings since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
