Baseball Recap: Covina Victorious

The Covina Colts had just enough and edged out the Sunny Hills Lancers 2-1 on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Colts.

C. Guzman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up six Ks. He is becoming a predictor of Covina's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 3-1 (and 2-4 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, Covina's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was L. Thorpe, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

The win got Covina back to even at 5-5. As for Sunny Hills, their loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-12.

Looking ahead, Covina will welcome Wilson at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Covina's pitchers better be ready for this one: Wilson has averaged an impressive 7.5 runs per game this season. As for Sunny Hills, they will venture away from home to challenge Chino Hills at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Chino Hills' pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so Sunny Hills' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
