Baseball Recap: Monroe Takes a Loss

Friday just wasn't the day for Monroe's offense. They fell just short of the Arleta Mustangs by a score of 1-0 on Friday. The Vikings were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Mustangs earlier this season, when they won 4-3.

Miguel Gonzalez spent all 7.1 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

Monroe dropped their record down to 9-5 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Arleta, their win ended a nine-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 4-8.

Coming up, Monroe will host Triumph Charter at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Vikings' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Jaguars have averaged an impressive 8.6 runs per game this season. As for Arleta, they will take on Gardena in a tournament on Saturday. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.38 runs per game on average), something the Mustangs will no doubt try to take advantage of.
