Basketball Recap: Red Bay Takes a Loss

Red Bay suffered their closest defeat since November 16, 2024 on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Tanner Rattlers by a score of 53-51. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Tigers of the 50-47 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2023.

Despite the defeat, Red Bay saw an underclassman step up: freshman Khalil Luster dropped a double-double with 15 points and 16 rebounds. Luster is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last 11 games he's played.

Tanner's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Elyjah Jones, who almost dropped a double-double with 15 points and nine boards. Ping Malone was another key player, going 7 of 10 on his way to 16 points.

Red Bay's loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 19-9. As for Tanner, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-14 record this season.

While Red Bay had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled on Wednesday.
