Softball Recap: Yough Starts Season with Victory at Home

Yough gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Lake Gibson Braves 4-3.

J Vay spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on seven hits and racked up eight Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brooke Kowalski, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.

Lake Gibson's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-5.

Looking ahead, Yough will take on Greens Farms Academy in a tournament on Monday. Lake Gibson will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Kathleen at 7:00 p.m. on March 24th. The last three games Kathleen has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
