Basketball Game Preview: Angoon Eagles vs. Hoonah Braves

Angoon is 8-2 against Hoonah since February of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Angoon Eagles will host the Hoonah Braves at 7:45 p.m. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with four consecutive losses for Angoon and seven for Hoonah.

It was a Battle of the Birds when Angoon faced off against Kake two weeks ago. Angoon was outmatched by Kake and fell 81-35. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alaska basketball rankings (they are ranked 105th, while the Thunderbirds are ranked 25th).

Meanwhile, Hoonah came up short against Hydaburg on Sunday and fell 60-50.

Angoon's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Hoonah, their loss dropped their record down to 2-11.

Everything came up roses for Angoon against Hoonah in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, as the team secured a 69-21 win. Will Angoon repeat their success, or does Hoonah have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
