Baseball Game Preview: Windom Eagles vs. Luverne Cardinals

Windom is 2-8 against Luverne since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Eagles will square off against the Cardinals at 5:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Windom lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Springfield, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Monday's game. The Eagles put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 14-4 win on Monday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.

Meanwhile, Luverne had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.4 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Thursday. They blew past the Saints 8-1. That's two games straight that the Cardinals have won by exactly seven runs.

Blake Sauer was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Luverne got a massive performance out of Carter Sehr, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three doubles, and three RBI. Those three doubles gave Sehr a new career-high. Jaxon Lais was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Luverne's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-4. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Windom, their record now sits at 12-8.

Windom might still be hurting after the 14-2 defeat they got from Luverne in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
