Baseball Game Preview: Benzie Central Huskies vs. Traverse City West Titans

The Benzie Central Huskies will venture away from home to square off against the Traverse City West Titans at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Benzie Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.

Benzie Central will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Tuesday, then bounced right back against Onekama on Friday. The Huskies blew past the Portagers 15-2. The victory continues a trend for the Huskies in their matchups with the Portagers: they've now won four in a row.

Lorin McNeil made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up a single earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tyler Brooks, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Benzie Central is undefeated when Brooks posts three or more hits, but 5-8-1 otherwise. Jayden Ewing was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Traverse City West was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of Stoney Creek. That's two games in a row now that the Titans have lost by just one run.

Traverse City West's defeat dropped their record down to 15-6. As for Benzie Central, the win got them back to even at 8-8-1.

Benzie Central skirted past Traverse City West 7-6 in their previous meeting back in May of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Huskies since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
