Soccer Game Preview: Gilroy vs. Live Oak

For the first time this season, Gilroy will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will square off against the Live Oak Acorns at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams beat their previous opponents by a single goal, so this matchup might be just as contested.

If Live Oak heads into halftime all tied up, they better play a good second half: that's when Gilroy took over last week. The Mustangs came out on top in a nail-biter against Cristo Rey San Jose Jesuit on Tuesday, sneaking past 2-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for Gilroy.

Juan Quiroz and Santiago Arvizu scored both of Gilroy's goals, bringing their combined season tally to six goals.

While Live Oak didn't have the best season last year (they finished 4-12-1), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Oak Grove 2-1. The final result isn't all that surprising considering Live Oak's considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 303rd, while Oak Grove are ranked 1115th).

Live Oak's win bumped their record up to 6-0-2. As for Gilroy, the victory got them back to even at 4-4-1.

Gilroy skirted past Live Oak 2-1 when the teams last played back in December of 2024. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Acorns turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
