Softball Game Preview: Dunlap Eagles vs. Limestone Rockets

The Dunlap Eagles will challenge the Limestone Rockets at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Dunlap has three straight victories, Limestone has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Friday, Dunlap beat Pekin 6-1.

Kaitlyn Atkinson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Gabby Drake, who fired off two home runs and four RBI while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Madilynn Ramos, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Dunlap lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Limestone came up short against Illini Bluffs on Saturday, falling 11-1.

Limestone's defeat dropped their record down to 6-11. As for Dunlap, their win bumped their record up to 19-4.

Dunlap was able to grind out a solid victory over Limestone in their previous meeting back in April, winning 4-0. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Rockets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
