Softball Game Preview: Layton Lancers vs. Farmington Phoenix

The Layton Lancers are taking a road trip to face off against the Farmington Phoenix at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Layton has given up an average of 10.4 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Layton fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Fremont on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 15-10 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Silverwolves. The Lancers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Serenity Overton made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all five of her plate appearances with two runs and two RBI. Macie Clark was another key player, getting on base in two of her five plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Davis hit Farmington with a five-run first inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Phoenix fell 7-4 to the Darts. Phoenix fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Darts since on Thursday.

Farmington saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Morgan Rogers, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

Farmington dropped their record down to 11-10 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Layton, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-20.

Layton might still be hurting after the 13-3 loss they got from Farmington in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Lancers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
