Softball Recap: Awaken Christian Continues Road Dominance on Friday

While Awaken Christian didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-8), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Everything went their way against the Beaver Dam Diamondback on Friday as the Awaken Christian Lions made off with a 21-3 win. Fans of the Lions have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.

Margaux Burney made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Burney was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kaylee Rasmussen, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four stolen bases, and four runs. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in stolen bases. The team also got some help courtesy of Cailey Velarde, who scored four runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Awaken Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .758. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .623 or higher in three consecutive matchups.

Awaken Christian's victory was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-0. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 14.5 runs. As for Beaver Dam, they are on a 14-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Looking ahead, Awaken Christian will square off against Needles at 1:00 p.m. on March 21st. Beaver Dam will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Beatty at 1:00 p.m. on March 28th.
