Softball Recap: Sandia Matadors vs. Albuquerque Bulldogs
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Cibola, Sandia was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They walked away with a 10-6 victory over the Albuquerque Bulldogs. Considering the Matadors' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Liliana Villanueva made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lola Valentin, who scored a run while going 4-for-4. She also brought in three RBI, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Destiny Romero, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
