Weskan falls despite strong effort from Trey Allen

Recap: Weskan Coyotes vs. Northern Valley Huskies

After flying high against the Wheatland-Grinnell Thunderhawks last Tuesday, the Weskan Coyotes came back down to earth. Weskan lost to Northern Valley at home by a decisive 68-53 margin on Friday. While losing is never fun, Weskan can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 199th, while Northern Valley is ranked 45th).

When it comes to explaining why Weskan lost, one person who can't be blamed is Trey Allen. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 21 points and 13 rebounds. Allen is absolutely dominating the point category: he's posted at least 15 every time he's taken the court this season. Brennan Aldridge was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.

Even though they lost, Weskan smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northern Valley only pulled down seven offensive rebounds.

Northern Valley got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Kenton Thalheim out in front who scored 22 points along with nine rebounds and seven assists. Another player making a difference was Jeremiah Hansen, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds and five assists.

Weskan's loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-4. As for Northern Valley, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 10-0.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Weskan will take on Heartland Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Northern Valley on the road again on Tuesday and play against Stockton at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd. Stockton and Northern Valley are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads.
