Softball Recap: Madison County Takes a Loss

Madison County had lost 14 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 2-16 to make it 15. They lost 12-2 to the Strasburg Rams. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Rams this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 20-1 back in April.

As for Strasburg, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. The result was nothing new for Strasburg, who have now won ten games by six runs or more so far this season.

For Strasburg's part, Olivia Moxley made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Moxley has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in ten consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Kaitlyn Cunningham was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Hannah Merriner was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Madison County and Strasburg could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings. The Mountaineers (ranked 289th) will meet Orange County (ranked 127th) at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Strasburg will challenge Central Woodstock at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank disadvantage (111 vs. 32).
