Volleyball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Bobbie Smith and Sophia Burns Lead Greenwood Mennonite to Victory

Greenwood Mennonite proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by three) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They won by a set and slipped past the Cross Christian Academy Centurions 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Flames have posted since October 1, 2024.

Greenwood Mennonite took Cross Christian Academy into a fifth set where they got it done with a four-point win. The match finished with set scores of 25-17, 25-19, 21-25, 21-25, 15-11.

Greenwood Mennonite was led to victory by Sophia Burns and Bobbie Smith. Burns had 12 aces, while Smith had five aces. That's the most aces Smith has posted since back in September of 2024.

They weren't the only good server: Greenwood Mennonite was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 32 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least eight aces in four consecutive games.

Greenwood Mennonite now has a winning record of 3-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Greenwood Mennonite will head out to challenge Chestertown Christian Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Cross Christian Academy, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Milford Christian at 5:00 p.m. on October 16.
