Basketball Game Preview: Marian Mustangs vs. Renaissance Phoenix

The Marian Mustangs will be taking part in a tournament against the Renaissance Phoenix at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Marian will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.

Marian saw some tournament action on Friday. They walked away with a 54-45 victory over Bloomfield Hills.

Meanwhile, Renaissance was able to grind out a solid win over Mumford on Friday, taking the game 60-53. Given the Phoenix's advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 26th, while the Mustangs are ranked 140th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Renaissance's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 22-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.0 points over those games. As for Marian, their record is now 9-15.

Marian was dealt a bruising 63-35 loss at the hands of Renaissance in their previous matchup back in March of 2023. Can Marian avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
