Basketball Recap: Athens Falls Despite Big Games from Isaac Brown and Sawyer Hill

Athens was the 46-30 winner over Riverton when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Athens Warriors fell 57-46 to the Riverton Hawks on Monday. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 409th, while the Hawks are ranked 109th).

Despite the defeat, Athens had strong showings from Sawyer Hill, who posted 11 points along with five assists and four steals, and Isaac Brown, who had four points. Hill has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last eight times he's played.

This is the second loss in a row for Athens and nudges their season record down to 9-7. As for Riverton, the win (which was their 13th in a row) raised their record to 16-1.

Athens has already played their next game, a 61-52 victory against Lutheran on the 15th. As for Riverton, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 54-45 loss against Auburn on the 16th.
