Basketball Game Preview: Swink Lions vs. Walsenburg Panthers

Swink and Walsenburg are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2016, but not for long. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Swink Lions face off against the Walsenburg Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both have had a bumpy ride up to this point with four consecutive losses apiece.

On Tuesday, Swink came up short against Swallows Charter Academy and fell 63-54.

Meanwhile, Walsenburg was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Tuesday as they fell 48-42 to La Veta.

Swink will need focus on slowing down Adrian Vallejos, one of several Walsenburg players who made an impact when they last played. He posted 17 points and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Landon Eccher, who scored eight points along with six boards and three steals.

Walsenburg's loss dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Swink, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 2-8.

Swink suffered a grim 76-54 defeat to Walsenburg in their previous meeting back in January of 2024. Thankfully for Swink, Elton Chavez (who dropped a double-double on 32 points and 24 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
