Baseball Recap: California's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Clayton Valley Charter, California was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They came out on top against the Antioch Panthers by a score of 6-1. The win was some much needed relief for the Grizzlies as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.

Matthew Carano spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, California's victory was truly a team effort as eight different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Johnny Edwards, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Angelo Sherman was another, scoring two runs while going 1-for-4.

California was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

California's win bumped their record up to 5-6. As for Antioch, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.

California will head out on the road to face off against Alhambra at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Grizzlies' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. As for Antioch, they will head out to challenge Amador Valley at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Dons have averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season.
