Baseball Game Preview: Clovis East Timberwolves vs. Clovis West Golden Eagles

Clovis East hasn't had much luck against Clovis West recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Timberwolves will host the Golden Eagles at 3:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Clovis East 2.5, Clovis West 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Clovis East's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They walked away with a 5-0 victory over Clovis North. While the Timberwolves didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-21), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Clovis West and Central meet (two straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Friday. The Golden Eagles came out on top against the Grizzlies by a score of 4-0.

Not much got past Nolin Santillan, who gave up just two hits and racked up 11 Ks to keep Central off the board. Santillan has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Clovis West's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Micah Raygoza, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4. Another was Riley Steward, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.

Clovis West's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-3. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for Clovis East, their victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 10-3.
