Softball Recap: Mounds View Mustangs vs. White Bear Lake Bears
Mounds View extended their losing streak to five on Monday, dropping their season record down to 2-14 in the process. They fell 5-2 to the White Bear Lake Bears. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bears this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 18-10 back in April.
As for White Bear Lake, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games.
For White Bear Lake's part, Lilly Martin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on nine hits and racked up 12 Ks.
On the hitting side, Kendall Kotzmacher was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Maddy Belisle was another key player, earning one RBI, one run, and one stolen base.
Coming up, Mounds View will square off against East Ridge at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for White Bear Lake, they will face off against Centennial at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (the Bears have won three straight at home, while the Cougars won three straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
