The St. Luke's Storm are taking a road trip to take on the Rye Country Day Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with St. Luke's sitting on three straight victories and Rye Country Day on five.
St. Luke's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. Everything went their way against Harvey as they made off with a 10-0 win. Considering the Storm have won three contests by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
St. Luke's got a great performance from Matt Staub as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over five innings pitched.
At the plate, David Carioto was excellent, scoring two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Brennan Fila also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
While Rye Country Day didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-11), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against Greens Farms Academy by a score of 7-4 on Friday. With that victory, the Wildcats brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.
Andrew Leonard made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
In other pitching news, Brady Hollwedel looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Harry Holtman, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. He has become a key player for Rye Country Day: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-2 otherwise. Brodie Moye was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one RBI.
Rye Country Day hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Greens Farms Academy struck out seven times.
St. Luke's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Rye Country Day, their record is now 5-2.
